Education: Maritime Academy graduate with Bachelor’s Degree in marine field or equivalent experience.
Experience: Three to five years of experience in maritime industry required, with two years of practical experience in safety management activities.
Skills/Software: Working experience with NSE, Excel, Word, and Outlook.

• Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, experience with NSE.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The position is responsible for compliance oversight of health, safety, quality and environmental matters working in coordination with HSSEQ staff and other SFM Departments. Promote health and safety awareness and improve operating practices throughout the fleet.
• Supports the drive to Goal Zero as outlined in the Safety Management Systems Health, Safety, and Environmental Policies.
• Supports oversight of ISM Code compliance.
• Reviews, edits, and authors management system documents on a regular basis with a focus on continual improvement.
• Assists Superintendents to ensure CAR corrective and preventive actions are effective, and completed within time requirements. Drafts the Corrective Action Plan (CAP) from non-conformities as appropriate for external audits.
• Conducts incident and injury investigations to identify root causes as directed.
• Assists in developing Annual Management Review content.
• Provide support to Masters and Medical Officers to ensure matters related to medical treatment on board and medicine chest concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
• Drafts safety alerts, learning from incidents, and other newsletter content to shore-side and shipboard personnel.
• Communicate and work with regulatory agencies, customers, vendors and industry groups with respect to HSSEQ matters.
• Assist in maintaining vessel’s emergency response plans.
• Participates in table top exercises and emergency drills (internal and external/third party) as required.
• Assist in monitoring and evaluating the impact of new regulations and industry requirements, including developing or revising existing fleet guidance.
• Required to travel 33% of the time.
Must also be willing and able to do the following:
• Maintains accurate and up-to-date HSSEQ statistics (lost time injuries, near miss reports, etc.)
• Oversees onboard training programs.
• Ensure requirements of EPA NPDES VGP are complied with throughout the fleet, including submission of annual report.
• Oversees the QSMS document control process.
• Schedules and facilitates external ISM audits.
• Tracks vessel movement and provides voyage specific vessel support regarding environmental compliance matters.
• Conducts internal audits both ashore and aboard vessels as needed and, when required, conduct pre-audits to prepare the vessel’s crew for external audits.
• Performs Role as Alternate Designated Person Ashore, as the ship to shore link to senior management, as assigned.
• Performs other position related duties as specified by management.
