Marine Construction Senior Structural Engineer

 

Daily Challenges:

  •  Managing and creating conceptual, preliminary, and detail design, related to a variety of marine terminal, industrial, and bulk material projects
  • Interpreting the work of project sub-consultants (such as geotechnical engineers and surveyors)
  • Researching and ensuring compliance with project design, building codes, and US Army Corp standards
  • Formulating project design criteria
  • Coordinating and directing drafters in the creation of bid and construction-level drawings
  • Working on multiple projects of moderate size and portions of major projects
  • Interfacing with project managers, other engineers, clients, and the Host executive team
  • Preparing and presenting technical reports and presentations, sometimes to executives and high level third parties
  • Checking drawings and other documents for accurate and complete design and engineering data
  • Researching, learning, and implementing different design techniques which may be industry specific
  • Reviewing vendor/fabricator shop drawings
  • Performing necessary field work to obtain accurate information for designs
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • PE in Louisiana, or ability to obtain PE in LA through reciprocity (within six months preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering design
  • Working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, ACI, ASTM, UB, IBC, and other industry- and project-specific standards and codes
  • Experience in analysis of structural systems utilizing RISA
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/CADWorx 3D, RISA, and MS Office Suite
  • Experience in the marine construction industry strongly preferred
  • Ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with total project systems (including mechanical, structural, civil, and electrical components) to allow considerations into a project or area design
  • Experience supervising and/or directing the work of drafters, other engineering support staff, and third-party engineering consultants
  • Availability and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Availability and ability to work overtime as needed based on project
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with an ability to recognize and appraise seriousness and urgency of issues as they relate to department activities
  • Ability to perform diversified tasks
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with customers to gain agreement/support
  • Ability to work well and maintain strong business relationships with other departments, outside suppliers, and other business partners to deliver against Host goals

  • Track record of delivering business results
  • Must meet "fit for duty requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 15% of work schedule is required
