Silverstream is seeking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer to their technical team, to aid their continued growth and success.

Reporting To: Lead Structural Engineer

Location: London / Southampton office including Hybrid Working

The role is responsible for providing Structural Design Engineering support for multiple product development projects including the design of the next generation of the Silverstream® Air Release Units (ARU).

The successful applicant will support in the production of structural drawings for the arrangement and integration of our Air Release Units (ARU) in Retrofit and Newbuild Projects. As well as involvement in a wide range of activities from supporting the integration process associated with these key structural components, to supporting the established relationships with fabricators of such components and their installation at ship.

Experience / Qualifications Required:

  • Higher Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture or similar.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years working in a structural or mechanical design role with evidence of technical responsibility for structural works executed.
  • A working knowledge of the structural design and design verification through application of first principles via hand calculations and Finite Element analysis tools.
  • Proficient in 2D AutoCAD and 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • A clear and demonstratable understanding of Classification Society rules relating to the design, construction and modification of ship/ engineering structures.
  • Ability to produce and read technical engineering drawings with understanding of weld details and geometric tolerances.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of construction/fabrication practices, processes and standards within the shipbuilding and/or related industries.
  • A working experience in Technical Report Writing.
