Port Captain position for leading maritime contractor to the US Government managing and operating vessels.

Job Summary:
The Port Captain performs problem solving, troubleshooting to ensure the effective operations of vessels including providing training and assessments.

Responsibilities and Authorities:

  • Performs as FSO
  • Member of Incident Response Team
  • Performs wide variety of tasks relating to the safe and efficient operation of the vessels under client's management
  • Serves as member of the HR Committee
    • Assists in the identification of Senior Officers to fill vacant positions
    • Assists with the implementation of labor MOU in new contracts
    • Assists in Labor Relations and Crewing processes
  • Assists Program Managers to ensure vessels are operated in accordance with Customer Contracts
  • Assists Program and Contract Managers in the management of the Deck Department functions onboard client's vessels
  • Maintains communication with vessel Masters/OICs/CMs
  • Maintains relationship with training schools and with government training organizations to improve the efficiency of training processes
  • Assists Payroll, Purchasing, and Claims personnel with vessel specific queries
  • Assists in the Business Development process
    • Reviews RFP requirements as they relate to labor
    • Assists with OT assumptions and labor cost verifications
    • Assists in preparing and reviewing proposals for new or renewing contracts
    • Assists in the formulation and negotiation process for new labor contracts and MOU
  • Anticipate 25% travel

Qualifications:

  • US Citizen
  • Holds or is eligible for a SECRET security clearance
  • Possesses a minimum of 5 years of commercial Port Captain's experience; or
    • A minimum of 5 years of seagoing experience as a ship's Master or Chief Mate on a USCG unlimited license; or,
    • A combination of a Bachelor's degree in Marine Transportation and at least 3 years of documented sailing experience on a USCG unlimited license; or,
    • Equivalent experience acceptable to the client's Executive Committee
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to embark and disembark large, high-freeboard vessels via a pilot ladder and/or gangway
