K Line forms Indian stevedoring venture

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has formed a cargo handling joint venture in India. Nitto Baxi is created via K Line subsidiary Nitto Total Logistics and local Indian firm, J M Baxi & Co.

Initially the new venture will focus on stevedoring and handling of vehicles carried on K Line car carriers. Other shipping segments will be added later.

K Line has identified the Indian car trades as an area for significant growth going forward.

“We will move forward to develop logistics business in rapidly developing countries surrounding Asia,” the Japanese shipping giant said in a release today.
