Kai Tak’s homeport aspirations grow

Hong Kong: The first cruise liner to have taken Hong Kong as a homeport took off at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal with more than 3,000 passengers on Tuesday.

Royal Caribbean International’s Mariner of the Seas set off to Taiwan in the afternoon and will return to Hong Kong on 2 November.

Peter Lam, chairman of the local tourism board, said during the ceremony that the cooperation with other ports in the region is essential for growing Hong Kong's cruise tourism as the cruise lines tend to chose attractive ports of call in the same region when planning an itinerary. [30/10/13]
