Kalibaru Port to start ops next year

Jakarta: The eagerly awaited first phase of Kalibaru Port in North Jakarta is set to start operations in the middle of next year.

The first phase will include a quayside of 850 m in length and an annual capacity of 1.5m teu. It should help ease congestion at the nation’s top port, Tanjung Priok.

The terminal will be run by state run Pelindo II and Japanese conglomerate Mitsui Co. The pair will then build two more berths at Kalibaru to add a further 4.5m teu in capacity by 2018.  [16/07/14]
