KC Maritime linked to cancelled bulk carrier newbuilding

Cosco Dalian says an Asia-based client has cancelled one of its two 82,000-dwt bulk carriers on order at the Chinese yard and delayed delivery of the other.

The unit had originally been scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2016 but will now be deleted. The other unit was due to arrive this quarter but delivery has been rescheduled for the third quarter 2017, Cosco said.

The information corresponds to orders placed by Hong Kong-based KC Maritime, which ordered two 82,000-dwt bulkers from the yard in July 2014, according to shipyard data.

“Construction of neither vessel has commenced and the downpayment received by Cosco Dalian for the cancelled vessel will be applied towards the other vessel,” the shipyard said today.
