Ken Bloch Soerensen steps down at Algoma

Canadian dry bulk operator Algoma Central Corporation has announced that Ken Bloch Soerensen has resigned as president and CEO to spend more time with his family in Europe.

Sorensen has been heading Algoma since April 2015 and will be replaced by COO Gregg Ruhl who will assume the role immediately. Ruhl has been with Algoma since 2015 and was previously managing director of rail giant CN’s marine division.

Duncan Jackman, chairman of Algoma, commented: “Ken brought a new, more global outlook to Algoma and was instrumental in shifting the focus of the company to opportunities outside of our traditional Great Lakes markets.

“He built a strong management team to support this growth, while retaining our strong strategic position domestically. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Ken for his contribution to the growth and success of Algoma and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
