Keppel inks orders for new FPSO and barge units

Singapore: Keppel Shipyard and Keppel Nantong Shipyard, both part of Keppel Offshore & Marine, have secured contracts worth a total of S$153 million for the construction of two new vessels.

In China, Keppel Nantong is constructing a submersible barge for Smit Shipping Singapore, a subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster Group.

Singapore-based Keppel Shipyard's contract is for the conversion of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for Armada Cabaca, part of Bumi Armada.

The FPSO will have a storage capacity of 1.7 million barrels, and will be able to handle up to 80,000 bpd of oil, 120,000 bpd of water injection, and 120 million standard cubic feet per day of gas handling.

Work has already begun on the FPSO project for Bumi Armada. Keppel Shipyard is scheduled to complete the work in the second quarter 2016. The project comprises refurbishment and life extension works; upgrading of living quarters to accommodate 100 personnel; installation and integration of an external turret mooring system, and topside process modules.

Upon completion, the FPSO will be producing for the Angola Block 15/06 East Hub Project that is located 350 km northwest of Luanda, Angola.

The new submersible barge, Giant 7, is already under construction in China and is the third such unit currently under construction by Keppel Nantong for Smit Shipping. The first two units, Giant 5 and Giant 6, will be deployed in the Wheatstone project, 12km west of Onslow, off the Pilbara coast of Western Australia.

Giant 7 is slated to be completed in late 2015, while Giant 5 and 6 are on track for completion at the end of this year and in early 2015 respectively. [07/10/14]
