KSS Shipping orders VLGC pair for BGN charter

South Korean owner KSS Shipping has announced that it has placed an order at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the construction of two 84,000 cu m VLGCs.

The two scrubber-fitted ships, which will be delivered in the first half of 2021, will be chartered to Turkish energy firm BGN under a five-year charter contract, which includes a two-year extension option. The value of the contract is about KRW276.3bn ($230m).

In June, KSS signed for one firm 86,000 cu m VLGC newbuilding with an option for one more at HHI, for long-term charter with a Spanish energy trader.

KSS owns a fleet of 22 ships including 15 LPG carriers.
