Dubai: The long planned Mubarak-Al Kabir port in Kuwait is slipping behind schedule. Local media cited political disputes as the reason for delay.
Despite land reclamation being completed last year and quay construction underway by last summer at the site on Boubyan Island, the planned mega port has also slimmed down its original size plans. The original plans for the $1.2bn port included 60 berths, but following a dispute with Iraq over the port’s development, this was reduced to 24 berths, with an initial handling capacity of 2.5m teu per year. Completion of the first phase of development was expected this year, although this looks unlikely now. [28/09/14]
