Last Brightoil tanker sold

Details about the sale of Brightoil’s last VLCCs are carried in the latest weekly report from Clarkson Research Services.

Alpha Tankers, also known as Pantheon Tankers Management, was the highest bidder at Haikou Maritime Court’s online auction for Brightoil Petroleum’s 2013-built VLCC Brightoil Gem.

Commenting on the $57.35m price, Clarkson noted: “On face value the price looks attractive for the buyer basis prompt delivery of the vessel, the prevailing market and the scarcity of alternatives.”

Creditors arrested Brightoil’s entire fleet of VLCCs and aframaxes earlier this year, and the Brightoil Gem was the last ship sold.
