Latakia fees infuriate shippers

The new tariff for containers at the port of Latakia in Syria has raised widespread discontent among shippers, forcing many to mull switching their trade routes.

A local shipper commented: "The tariff of a 20-feet container was 6000 Syrian lira, and has now risen to 21,000 liras, meaning it has risen 270% while 40-feet containers from 7,500 Syrian Lira to 29,000 Lira, and of course costs will be charged to the goods."  [23/04/13]
