Lianyungang port expands shipping channel

Shanghai: The eastern Chinese port of Lianyungang is to start the second phase construction of a 300,000 dwt class shipping channel in the first half of next year. The construction will cost in the region of RMB7.5bn.

The first phase project was completed in October in 2013, making the port capable of accommodating large-sized bulk carrier.

The port is in talks with the Brazilian mining giant Vale to establish a shipping route between Lianyungang and Brazil. The valemax vessel, Vale Malaysia, docked at Lianyungang in April 2013. [09/12/14]
