Libyan oil production plummets 60 percent this week

Cairo: Libyan oil production has dropped by 60% in the past week, according to a government official, as clashes between pro-government forces and Islamist militias in the country's eastern area have resulted in the closure of key oil port, Es Sidra.

Oil production had been as high as 800,000 barrels per day before this latest bout of fighting kicked off on Saturday in the war-torn country.

Libya Dawn’s offensive to capture the country’s eastern oil ports is the one of the biggest operations so far in the six-month war between the country’s two rival governments.  [18/12/14]
