Libyan port of Marsa Brega to resume oil exports soon

Cairo: A shipping source has said that the Libyan port of Marsa Brega may restart oil shipments in the next few days.
Libyan oil sector disturbances are still ongoing due to the closure of the two largest oil ports, Sidra and Ras Lanuf, about four weeks ago because of protests.

The shipping source said that Brega resumed most of its operations with the arrival of shipments of fertilizer and methanol, but did not see any oil tankers anchored in the harbor so far, and added "We believe that the export of crude oil from Brega will begin in two or three days."

In the port of Marsa Al Hariga in eastern Libya,  meanwhile, the operator of the tanker, Hellas Warrior, a ship awaiting loading at the port, said that the situation is constantly changing and that conflicting information is coming from the port and the National Oil Corporation of Libya.

The Libyan Oil Ministry had announced earlier this week the reopening of Marsa Al Hariga.

From its side the Libyan navy said in a statement carried by the official news agency that the units in charge of scanning and reconnaissance operations, deployed off the oil ports of Sidra, Ras Lanuf and Brega will inspect tankers in the region, and end the illegal presence of those that do not have the right authoridsation.

Elsewhere, armed clashes broke out at the Libyan oil terminal of Zueitina on Tuesday in the wake of an escalating controversy between the government and some militants, who have started to sell oil for their personal benefit.  [22/08/13]
