Lithuanian captain accused of being drunk on duty

A 43-year-old Lithuanian captain appeared in a Belfast court yesterday accused of running a containership while drunk.

Eugenijus Tulauskas was arrested by harbour police due to his alleged condition on an unspecified container vessel on Sunday.

The 43-year-old Lithuanian, of no fixed abode, faces a charge of having excess alcohol while on duty as professional master of a ship.

The court heard that the company who own the vessel intends to fly in another captain to take over sailing duties.

Tulauskas is due to appear again on October 10.
