LNG terminal network springs up across Eastern Indonesia

Jakarta: Indonesian state run energy giant Pertamina has proposed the establishment of a series of mini LNG terminals across the east of the country to meet growing demand, saying a pipeline network is not commercially viable.

Pertamina estimates that peak demand for natural gas in Eastern Indonesia could reach 30m cu ft per day, eclipsing available supply.

Pertamina and state electricity firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara have created a joint venture named Perta Daya Gas that will construct mini-LNG terminals in seven locations across Eastern Indonesia with the first ones coming into operation in 2014. Each terminal will be able to handle around 1m tons a year.  [22/04/13]
