Maersk ship runs aground in Fremantle

Sydney: A boxship belonging to Maersk Line ran aground early this morning entering Fremantle. The Maersk Garonne (4,544 teu, built 2003) hit soft sand 500 m off South Mole when entering Fremantle’s inner harbour at 5am. Tugs pulled the ship free three hours later and the ship was assessed for damage by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

No injuries or damage to the vessel were reported. Authorities are investigating the incident.
