Maindeck: Ship repair portal takes shape

Maindeck, a Norwegian portal designed to simplify the complex process of drydocking, is taking shape.

Maindeck is a cloud-based software that empowers shipmanagers through the entire drydocking process, from the first inspection for the project specification to the final report after yard stay.

“Existing maintenance systems focus on maximum number of functions, building complex systems that are costly and difficult to implement,” argues Sasan Mameghani, Maindeck’s CEO.

Shipmanagers can log on to Maindeck andspecify all their repair, maintenance and service projects.

To be released in 2018 is the project management functionality that is to be used during the yard stay to help gain full control of all activities and progress, including a fully-integrated inspection app and automatic report generator.

The yard selection functionality will be released soon too, and will allow for handling of price quotations from the yards. Maindeck has already launched a shipyard database.

In terms of how repair and maintenance is changing in shipping, Mameghani believes there is a clear generation shift happening, with more and more superintendents being graduates from technical institutions.

“There is wave of superintendents coming that not only know and understand software, they demand it as well. This is a significant change for the industry, and it opens up enormous possibilities going forward,” Mameghani says.
