Major ports show negative growth

Shanghai: Major ports of China showed negative growth during the third quarter, which should be the peak season for the port business, according to a report released by Shanghai International Shipping Institute. Weak foreign trade demand is the main reason for the slow growth of Chinese ports, the institute said.

In Q3, major Chinese ports including Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qingdao all made negative growth, however, the second-tier ports such as Yantai, Zhanjiang and Fuzhou all maintained the fast growth speed. Watch out for a special on Chinese ports in the upcoming Issue 4 of SinoShip magazine due out next week. [21/11/12]
