Malaysian youth should focus on offshore jobs

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian nationals can fill the country’s raft of offshore job positions, according to Masni Amit, managing director of training acacdemy Pelita Maslaut.

“We believe that the maritime industry in Malaysia has grown tremendously with more career opportunities being created. These vacancies can be filled by our local youths.

“With our student’s expertise and knowledge, the industry can lessen its dependence on foreign maritime workers,” he said at a student function over the weekend.

Masni said that about 60% of positions in the national maritime industry are being filled by workers from Indonesia, the Philippines and Myanmar.  [17/06/13]
