Marathon Oil abandons Solomon well in Gulf of Mexico

Houston, Texas-based Marathon Oil has called it quits on its Solomon deepwater well in the US Gulf of Mexico because it did not yield adequate results.

The company revealed that the well has been plugged and abandoned with no prospect of it being reactivated.

Marathon has been selling off its operated producing properties in the Gulf of Mexico as it puts its emphasis on land-based shale developments.

The well was drilled with Maersk Drilling’s drillship Maersk Valiant which is under a three-year contract.
