Marina still investigating ferry disaster

Manila: The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) is still investigating the cause of Medallion Shipping Lines' sinking of its ferry off Burias Island, Masbate, last Friday that claimed the lives of two people.

Despite being urged to stop the company's operations, Marina administrator Maximo Mejia said that Medallion Shipping Lines will be subject to questioning and investigation on the mishap of its roro ship M/V Our Lady of Mount Carmel carrying more than 60 passengers.

"The owner will have the time to present its case and explain why the accident happened and why their franchise will not be taken from them," Mejia said in a radio interview.

As of Monday, seven other passengers have not yet been retrieved as the Philippine Coast Guard continues its search operations. [17/06/13]
