Maritime training included in HK budget

Hong Kong: In an all too rare nod to Hong Kong’s shipping community the local government announced yesterday plans to bolster maritime training.

Financial secretary John Tsang proposed in his annual budget to designate HK$100m to establish a training fund for maritime and aviation transport.

While applauding the gesture, Arthur Bowring, managing director of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, said the handout needed to be further clarified. “Who will manage it, and who will get what is unclear,” he told SinoShip News. Bowring also said he was disappointed there was nothing in Tsang’s speech about double taxation agreements.  [28/02/13]
