Mermaid Maritime charters in more vessels for sub-sea services

Singapore: Singapore-listed Mermaid Maritime has chartered in three additional vessels over the past month in response to “strong demand” for sub-sea services.

An offshore sub-sea construction vessel, the Siem Daya 2, was this week chartered-in to provide support services to a sub-sea cable laying installation in the Middle East for an upstream national oil and gas major.

The Siem Daya 2 will be on hire until early January 2015 with options for further extension depending on additional work availability, Mermaid said in an exchange filing today.

The new addition brings Mermaid’s operational fleet up to 14 vessels.

In October, Mermaid chartered-in the Mubarak Carrier, a construction barge for short-term work in the Middle East on a sub-sea cable-lay trenching support for an oil and gas major.

The Harkand Harmony, a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and survey support vessel, also joined Mermaid’s fleet in October. The vessel has been employed for gas detection work in the Gulf of Thailand for an international oil and gas major.

Mermaid says both charters “cater to additional short-term customer requirements scheduled to be completed this November 2014”.

The company says its current order book is worth $470m, “with potential for more near-term contracts”. [6/11/14]
