Middle East heavylift sector poised for ‘golden moment’

Shanghai: The Middle East is about to go through a big infrastructure boost which will bring much heavylift cargoes into the region, albeit that exports out of the area remain nearly non-existent, a senior heavylift specialist said.

Speaking to GulfShip News, Justin Archard, managing director for Asia and Oceania for Germany’s SAL Heavy Lift, said the Middle East was about to go through “a bit of a golden moment”, especially in Saudi Arabia and the UAE where very large petrochemical projects are being undertaken.

“There will be a very steady flow of high value equipment heading to the Persian Gulf, but Persian Gulf offers almost nothing in export so from the point of view of shipowners, we get the benefit from one-way trade only,” Archard said.  [18/03/14]
