MIIT shipbuilding head under investigation

China’s National Supervisory Commission has announced that Li Dong, chief director of the industrial equipment department at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), is under investigation for suspected serious legal violations.

The industrial equipment department of MIIT is mainly in charge of the national level management of four industries – shipbuilding, automobile, aviation and heavy machinery.

Li has served in the position since May 2016.

In April, MIIT ditched a so-called white list policy for the shipbuilding industry, giving tacit admission that its era of shipyard restructuring is coming to a close.
