More Indonesian palm oil terminals needed
Jakarta: The Indonesian Vegetable Oil Refiners Association (GIMNI) has urged Jakarta to build more ports to help smooth supply chains. The association is urgently calling for at least three more terminals capable of handling palm oil exports.
“Handling costs at our existing seaports is expensive, particularly due to high demurrage, which according to our exporters’ cost discrepancies with overseas ports such as Port Klang [in Malaysia] could range to between $15 and $20 per tons of exports,” a spokesperson for the association told local media.
Indonesia, the world’s top palm oil producer, is anticipating a 4.4% growth in exports to 19m tons this year. [11/07/13]
