More routes planned connecting Mindanao with southern neighbours

Manila: More shipping routes are set to open in the coming couple of years between Mindanao in the far south of the Philippines and other parts of the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), the Philippine government has confirmed.

The news comes as a new shipping service between Davao and General Santos on Mindanao Island and North Sulawesi launches this week operated by Indonesian line, PT Kanaka.

The goal going forward is to try and transform Davao into a transhipment hub for exports from across the BIMP-EAGA region.  [03/09/14]
