MOT gives two firms access to domestic LNG shipping market

Beijing: The Ministry of Transport has handed out two new approvals to domestic firms for them to enter China's coastal LNG shipping business.

The two companies, CNOOC Yangjiang and Zhejiang Huaxiang Shipping, are now allowed to operate LNG ships and enter into the coastal LNG transport sector. “Only two new companies were added this time, there might be more, but not in short term,” an official from China Shipowner Association told SinoShip News.

LNG import projects are predominantly operated by the three domestics oil giants, and MOT suggests shipping companies set up cooperations with them as soon as possible. The ministry also stated it will support the development of small-sized LNG ships in the coming few years. [15/01/14]
