MPA chief stresses importance of attracting next maritime generation

Singapore: Singapore Maritime Week got underway yesterday, the largest to date with some 29 events sanctioned. Opening the week’s festivities yesterday, the chief executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Andrew Tan, was keen to highlight the importance of promoting a maritime career to the younger generation in Singapore.

"Singapore has to remain relevant, by making sure that we have sufficient capabilities and people joining the sector, which is why we are very keen to attracting younger people to join the industry, Tan said, adding: "As you can see in some of the events we have organised today such as the Amazing Maritime Hunt, that has seen one of the largest participations, with 1,300 people so far, and most of them are… youngsters."

Singapore Maritime Week closes on Friday. Singapore-headquartered Asia Shipping Media, the parent of this site, has an active week planned ensuring a variety of publications are distributed at various events. [07/04/14]
