MPC acquires feeder boxship from Soundview

Highly active German owner MPC Capital has brought another secondhand containership. According to broking sources, MPC has acquired the 1,118 teu Shippan Island from US owner Soundview Maritime for $5.5m.

In April, MPC Capital launched a new company MPC Container Ships with a focus on small-size container ships between 1,000 and 3,000 teu. The company has raised $100m in funds through a private placement and intends to list the shares on a stock exchange later this year.

MPC said the first signs of a recovery are currently being seen in the container shipping market and the company has already secured an initial fleet of what it described as attractive assets.
