Highly active German owner MPC Capital has brought another secondhand containership. According to broking sources, MPC has acquired the 1,118 teu Shippan Island from US owner Soundview Maritime for $5.5m.
from US owner Soundview Maritime for $5.5m.In April, MPC Capital launched a new company MPC Container Ships with a focus on small-size container ships between 1,000 and 3,000 teu. The company has raised $100m in funds through a private placement and intends to list the shares on a stock exchange later this year.
MPC said the first signs of a recovery are currently being seen in the container shipping market and the company has already secured an initial fleet of what it described as attractive assets.
