Fast growing feeder containership owner MPC Container Ships has become the latest member of Trident Alliance, a coalition of shipping owners and operators with a shared interest in robust and transparent enforcement of environmental regulations.
“Joining the Trident Alliance allows us to align our company with an important network of like-minded industry peers, and support industry-wide calls for effective and transparent enforcement around the world,” said Constantin Baack, CEO of MPC Container Ships.
The company announced earlier that it would take a balanced approach to the IMO 2020 sulphur emissions regulation by way of operating 58 vessels on compliant fuel while retrofitting 10 vessels with scrubbers.
According to MPC, retrofitting and commissioning for the first three vessels has been completed and the entire retrofitting programme is scheduled to be completed before end of this year.
Additionally, the company has concluded charters for eight of the ten scrubber-fitted vessels for periods of 2-3 years at attractive base rates which includes a savings sharing mechanism.
MPC Container Ships was formed in April 2017, with a focus on owning and operating feeder containerships between 1,000 and 3,000 teu. Having stated a goal of forming a 100-ship fleet, the company has expanded its fleet to 69 ships to date.
