MPC Container Ships acquires boxship pair

Fast growing German owner MPC Container Ships continues to expand its fleet with the acquisition of two secondhand boxships.

The company has paid a total of $18.4m for a 2008-built 2,564 teu vessel to be renamed AS Petulia and a 2003-built 1,200 teu vessel to be renamed AS Frida. The seller was not disclosed.

The ships will join MPC’s fleet in November and will increase the company’s fleet to 25 vessels.

In October, MPC’s CEO Ulf Hollander revealed intentions to build up a fleet of 100 ships.
