MSC takes Diana containership on timecharter

Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has fixed a boxship owned by Diana Containerships on a 12-month timecharter, continuing its chartering spree seen over the course of this week.

The post-panamax Puelo (6,541 teu, built 2006) was fixed at a gross charter rate of $6,500 per day, minus 3.75% commission for third parties, commencing May 18. NASDAQ-listed Diana expects the contract to generate around $2.15m of gross revenue during the firm contract period.

MSC has the option to extend the charter for a further 12 months at a gross rate of $8,600 per day, and at $20,000 per day if the Geneva-based company chooses to extend the contract for another year beyond that.

Earlier this week, MSC was reported to have fixed three panamax containerships owned by Germany’s Rickmers Maritime Trust on short-term timecharters.

Vicki Rickmers (4,250 teu, built 2007) was fixed on a 12-month contract for $4,750 daily, commencing June 10. The 4,250-teu India Rickmers (built 2009) was fixed for 2-6 months commencing May 22 and Maja Rickmers (built 2007) was fixed for 2-7 months commencing May 16, each at a rate of $4,750 per day.
