Nakilat eyes LNG as ship fuel

Doha: Nakilat Qatar is considering operating ships with natural gas as an alternative fuel.

Hamad Rashid Mohanadi, vice chairman of Qatar Petroleum and former chairman of Nakilat Qatar, has revealed a recent study to operate ships with natural gas.

Mohanadi said: “This matter is currently under study and in advanced stages.”

He added that the cost of bunkers in ship’s operation is much larger than natural gas, stressing that there is another major reason behind the study, namely the preservation of the environment, as natural gas is more environmentally friendly than diesel.  [30/04/13]
