Nam Cheong scores two more orders

Singapore: Malaysian offshore shipbuilder Nam Cheong Limited has sold two more vessels, giving it a first quarter sales tally of seven in total, a record for the company.

The new deals are worth around $43.1m, made up of one anchor handling towing supply vessel sold to Kayfour Development Corporation in Malaysia and one platform supply vessel to repeat customer E.A. Temile and Sons Development Company of Nigeria Limited.

Leong Seng Keat, Nam Cheong’s ceo said, “We are very pleased with this strong sales momentum, with seven vessels sold in the first three months of the year. Notably, since our first entry into West Africa in August 2012, we have made good progress, with our first repeat business from a customer operating in this region, known for its strong prospects in oil discoveries.”

In an interview with Maritime CEO earlier this month Leong said the firm delivered a record 24 vessels last year and is looking to hand over 30 ships this year and 35 next year. Read the full interview here. [31/03/14]
