Nanjing readies to welcome panamaxes

Shanghai: The waters around Nanjing are set to get a whole lot deeper with a recent contract awarded to CCCC Shanghai Dredging. Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province and China’s largest inland port, will be able to accept panamaxes once the dredging is complete towards the end of this year.

The channel being dredged has a length of some 57 km, an excavated bottom width of 500 m, a designed depth of 12.5 m, a minimum turning radius of 1,500 m and a slope ratio of 1:10.  [03/03/14]
