New port community system for Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) yesterday launched Maqta Gateway, a new innovative port community system (PCS) project.

The Gateway is a state-of-the-art system that connects ports, exporters, importers, shipping lines, customs and government agencies involved in Abu Dhabi’s import and export trade business.

It offers all parties a single point of contact and real-time information at any time of the day and is available via mobile. ADPC says this will significantly enhance processing times and communication procedures.

The system will feed into wider global supply chain communication platforms and enable smooth transport and logistics operations between Abu Dhabi ports, airports and railway networks.

ADPC signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with its partner organisations for the project yesterday. The organisations that will help develop the project include the Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW); Abu Dhabi Customs Administration (ADCA), Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), Etihad Rail, Abu Dhabi Airports and Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT).

ADPC is the first organisation in the GCC region to become a member of the International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA), a global body that upholds standards in international port community system operators. IPCSA’s membership now totals 26 countries. [17/12/14]
