Nexen stops operations at Yemen oilfield after terror threat

Sana'a: Nexen, the upstream oil and gas subsidiary of CNOOC, has stopped operation at an oilfield and processing facility in Yemen due to security threats.

Nexen shutdown the Block 51 field operations and BAK PF processing facility after the company received the threats from Al Qaeda. Operations will not resume until the local situation is safe for workers to return, said the company.

Nexen is engaged in developing energy resources in some of the world’s most significant basins including the UK North Sea, offshore West Africa, the United States and Western Canada. The company was acquired by CNOOC in 2013. [22/12/14]
