Ningbo Marine eyes secondhand bulker purchase

Chinese dry bulk operator Ningbo Marine plans to purchase a secondhand handysize bulker for its subsidiary Zheneng Tongli Shipping.

The company said the subsidiary’s only owned vessel, 1986-built handy bulker Fu Xing 16, will be sent to scrap in December and the acquisition will help the subsidiary maintain its operating licence.

Ningbo Marine is looking to buy a vessel built after 2011 with capacity between 30,000 dwt and 40,000 dwt, and the company will allocate up to RMB130m ($18.4m) for the acquisition.

The vessel will be mainly used for transporting coal for its parent company Zhejiang Energy.
