Doha: A long time away from the international scene does not seem to have harmed National Iranian Tanker Company’s (NITC) fleet size, with the firm’s managing director Ali Akber Safaei telling local media that despite sanctions the company controls the second largest oil tanker fleet in the world. Safaei said the NITC fleet now can carry 16m tons of oil, up by 2m tons in the past year.
The NITC fleet, recently freed from onerous nuclear-related sanctions, now totals 67 tankers, according to Safaei.
Sanctions against Iran have been lifted for an intial six-month period, leading NITC to reenter international trades. [11/02/14]
