NKT lines up Swedish offshore wind contract

Denmark’s NKT has entered into a conditional agreement with Swedish offshore wind developer OX2 and its partner Ingka Investments, the parent company of furniture giant IKEA, for the delivery and installation of export power cables offshore Sweden.

OX2 is developing three offshore wind farms in Sweden together with Ingka Investments: Galene on the west coast, Triton, in the south of Sweden and Aurora, between the islands Gotland and Öland. The final approval of the projects is made by the Government of Sweden and the projects have a potential to produce more than 30 TWh.

Under the deal, NKT’s facility in Karlskrona will deliver onshore and offshore cables for the recently awarded Galene and also for the Triton offshore wind farm. The company’s 2017-built cable layer NKT Victoria has been earmarked for the project. This is the second conditional contract developers entered into for the 400 MW Galene and 1.8 GW Triton.
