NKT set to sign deal for first major offshore wind farm in Poland

Danish offshore cabling specialist NKT is set to ink a contract to deliver an export power cable system for the Polish 1.2 GW offshore wind project Baltic Power.

The deal is being finalised with the formal signing expected end of June 2023 and subsequent final notice to proceed, NKT said.

The order for the first major offshore wind farm in Poland is worth around $128.5m and will comprise the design and production of approximately 130 km of 230 kV high-voltage power cables. The export power cables will be produced at the NKT factory in Cologne.

Baltic Power’s offshore wind farm area of about 130 sq km will feature 76 Vestas turbines, each with a generating capacity of 15 MW. The project is being developed jointly by ORLEN Group and Northland Power, with construction expected to start in 2024 and commercial operations in 2026.
