No improvement in Libyan port strikes

Cairo: The president of the union for the Libyan oil and gas sector, Louay Daoud, confirmed in a statement today that all the oil terminals in the Eastern Province are still closed. Daoud said high level talks between various factions have been held to discuss how to reopen the ports. Daoud said just two terminals are currently operating: Al Zawya and Mellita.

Daoud said it was vital that the federal government took sole control of the ports if they were to reopen.

The Energy Information Administration in the US said yesterday that unplanned petroleum disruptions averaged 2.7m barrels per day in August and that Libya accounted for about half the shortfall.

Over the past month, strikes by armed guards in Libya have seen output fall to 150,000 barrels a day as of last week, just 10% of its normal level.  [11/09/13]
