No plans to set up Egyptian ports authority

Cairo: The Minister of Transportation in Egypt, Ibrahim El-Demiri said that the separation of Egyptian ports from the Ministry of Transport is just a false rumour. There had been speculation in the press that following a difficult year for Egyptian ports, beset by strikes, plans were afoot to make a proper standalone ports regulatory body. El-Demiri said that Egyptian seaports will remain under the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport, and that the ministry is highly interested in the maritime transport sector, and concerned with its development.

El-Demiri later on, during a press conference held after closing the Arab Ministers of Transport meeting, pointed out that the ministers have plans to develop Port Said and the Red Sea ports as well as South of Sinai. [24/10/13]
