Norsafe: Freefall firsts

Tromøy: Norsafe is the only company in the world to have developed three freefall lifeboats according to the latest DNV-OS-E406 regulations, its ceo, Dag Songedal, tells Maritime CEO.

Songedal took on the top post at the Norwegian firm last August. Originally an accountant, the 51-year-old had been with the company from 2002 to 2008 before taking on the ceo role at Scandinavian electronics firm Kitron.

“With a global sales and service network and training opportunities from any location worldwide, our focus is on being close to our customers,” says Songedal.

Norsafe offers conventional and freefall lifeboats, rescue boats and davit systems in accordance with the latest SOLAS regulations.

The GES21 is the company’s newest freefall model, and is specially designed for installation on ships. It has a similar design to Norsafe’s larger state-of-the-art freefall lifeboats (GES 45 and GES 52), with the cockpit located in the centre of the boat. The davit of the 21 foot lifeboat takes up less deck space than other davits, and offers a maximum drop height of approximately 20 m.

“With a capacity of 26 persons it is an affordable alternative to other freefall lifeboats in the same class and meets the general SOLAS requirements,” says Songedal.

Meanwhile, the new Maxima-120 conventional lifeboat is the largest totally enclosed lifeboat (TELB) in the history of Norsafe, with a capacity of 150 persons. This TELB is built for ships, offshore vessels and installations in accordance with SOLAS 83, IMO LSA Code, NMD Reg. FOR853, GOM, UK Sector (HSE) with design features based on the latest OLF studies/DNV-OS-E406 standard.
