NTSB issues illustrated digest of its final report into the El Faro tragedy

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on Friday announced the release of an easy-to-read digest version of its final report and findings about the El Faro disaster.

On 1 October 2015, the US-flagged cargo ship El Faro was lost with all 33 crew members when it was caught in Hurricane Joaquin off the Bahamas.

In December last year the NTSB released its full report after extensive investigation and hearings.

Now an illustrated 16-page digest – with infographics – from NTSB summarizes the events and decisions that led to the sinking, the worst US shipping tragedy in more than 30 years.

It also condenses the 60-plus recommendations NTSB made to help prevent a repeat of the sinking.

The digest is available online as a pdf at the ntsb.gov website by clicking here.
